‘Golden Milk’ is a term that is popping up all over London and the healthy eating scene and the drink definitely lives up to it’s name. It may seem an odd thing to add Turmeric to milk and lap it up, but the combination is oddly wonderful and extremely delicious!
Turmeric is an absolute powerhouse of a spice and has been used for centuries in asian cooking. The high content of curcumin in it is said to reduce the risk of cancer and recent research shows how effective it is at both preventing and easing muscle soreness and inflammation (http://jissn.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1550-2783-11-31)
I also use it in face masks as it is a natural antioxidant and antibacterial and does wonders for your skin (as well as leaving you with a slight golden tan). It is also said to combat oily skin and reduce the signs of ageing. This may sound odd but whenever I have turmeric, I instantly notice a difference in my skin tone; it looks so much brighter and more radiant, it’s an absolute treat!
Teaming it with brown rice milk makes for the perfect post or pre-workout drink or just an alternative to your regular latte.
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 cup brown rice milk (my personal favourite with this recipe due to the natural sweetness but you can try alternatives)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
- Place all the ingredients into a sauce pan and heat gently until simmering, stirring throughout.
- If you have an electric hand whisk then give it a whirl.
- Pour into your mug and sip away on gold!
