Upping the Antioxidants: Smoothie of the Week

Even when you are at the height of health and making sure you are getting the right vitamins and minerals that your body needs, sometimes that pesky Winter flu just creeps up on you without you knowing.

It’s sods law in my life that the rare occasion I go out and let my hair down (my hair is down most days so that doesn’t really work in my life) and I have a late night, I am almost destined to get ill. Usually I am well prepared for this and drink oceans of wheatgrass, spirulina and coconut water the following morning, but the times I’m not as health savvy, are the ones that make me suffer.

This week I suffered from a dreaded stomach bug and was bed bound for a couple of days, sleeping pretty much for that entire time and unable to stomach real food. (My highlight was vegetable stock and dry toast).  Whenever I am bed bound like this I am so aware that my body is losing out on valuable nutrition and well earned muscle mass.

So as soon as I was able to stomach something a little more nutritious, I went all out and loaded my body with antioxidants to fuel my road to recovery. (I’m aware that this all sounds really dramatic but I’m just going to go with it).
